3 easy steps for a plastic-free beauty routine and an amazing skin

I personally enjoy doing facemasks on weekends to spend a chill moment. But, did you know that the industry of cosmetics and makeup is probably one of the biggest polluters? Indeed, every time you try to buy a lipstick or even a face cleanser, it’s always packaged in plastic. The worst is that the product itself may contain microplastics that are dangerous for our body and the Planet.

Scientific evidence

Cleansing products, shower gel, toothpaste, all these products we use daily may contain what we call microbeads: tiny pieces of plastic. Since they are super tiny, it is hard to get rid of them. Indeed, microplastics – including microbeads in beauty – are extremely difficult to remove from the environment which is why it’s better to avoid them.

According to an Australian research, it is estimated that there are “more than 500 microplastics ingredients that are widely used in cosmetics and personal care products”.

Less is beterre

If we want to avoid these microbeads, we should stop buying products containing those particles of plastic. One solution could be to always apply the formula “refuse, reduce, recycle” before buying a new product so you can avoid being tempted by all the marketing and publicity.

Moreover, you may be doing a favor to your skin if you start using fewer products. Indeed, using less means less stress for your skin barrier. So, your skin will be healthier and you will glow. Not only should you use less products but you should also avoid microbeads in the few products you use.

Swap single-use products

Remember small steps are the key. So, little by little, you should swap single-use products such as cotton pads, makeup wipes, cotton swabs with greener alternatives. This way, you will lower your environmental impact.

Also, please be aware of packagings. As they say, the best is no packaging at all. Moreover, there are a lot of free-packaging products sold such as bar shampoos. There are also refillable packagings so it can be a good solution too.

Do beterre, choose green

Remember, we said that it’s better to swap single-use products with greener alternatives. So, you’re probably wondering how you can say goodbye to your single-use, disposable cloth masks. The thing is those masks are highly contributing to the plastic crisis. So, you can either opt for masks sold in glass jars or recyclable packing or you can try making your own mask.

There are plenty YouTube tutorials, and with a bit of honey and coffee grounds, you can make a 100% natural and eco-friendly mask that will even allow you to reuse coffee grounds, isn’t that amazing?
