Once I organized a straw-making competition for my son and his friends, which turned out to be an entertaining activity for children. It was about creating colorful handmade straws from paper and compostable material. Not only did this activity bring children together for some time out of school but it also generated a sense of responsibility. You’re looking for some new ideas to have fun with your kids while teaching them important values, you’re in the right place.
Imagination, recycled crafts is your creation
Do you know that you can build a castle, a rocket, or even create a game with old cartons? Well, you can have fun with your kids while teaching them about the importance to protect our Earth. For instance, by doing crafts, you can teach them how to reuse, recycle things to give them a new life. Of course, use old materials instead of buying new ones. Moreover, it will stimulate your kids’ creativity. You can either create a dollhouse by using an old shoebox or even make a castle, as I did once with my son. And, please be sure to recycle all the materials properly at the end of the activities.
Be an explorer
What is the best way to sensitize children than to show them the beauty we need to protect? Exploring nature with your kids will make them realize that nature is beautiful. But, they will also understand the importance to protect it. To make it even funnier, you can explore nature but make it a role-playing game. Finally, if it’s rainy and you can’t go outside, you can explore nature via Google Earth and pick places you wouldn’t be able to visit because they are way too far.
Bedtime story rhymes with ecology
A lot of parents read books to their kids before going to bed. Reading tales is amazing but sometimes, you could opt for books about the environment. It could be a good way to draw their attention about plastic pollution, climate change, or waste.
I recommend you to read Willy Wild à la découverte de l’écologie : le plastique. It’s about Willy and his friend Scarlett who are disappointed because they only found plastic while looking for treasures in the sea. Accompanied by a turtle, they will start their mission to clean the ocean.
There are so many books about the environment to teach them about sustainability.
Here are a few other recommendations: Demain entre tes mains, Les Zenfants zero déchet, L’Écologie, Petits gestes pour la planète, Barnabé soigne la planète, Le loup qui rêvait d’océan ou encore Activités écolo pour les enfants in which you’ll find 40 other ideas to have fun with your kids.
